2015 1st Prize Classical Saxophone: Tyler Wiessner

wiessnerTyler Wiessner is an undergraduate student at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, where he is pursuing a major in both Music Education and Saxophone Performance.  As a member of the Finja Quartet, he has performed in master class settings for Claude Delangle, Griff Campbell, and the Coast Guard Saxophone Quartet.  The Finja Quartet was also awarded first prize in the 2013 MTNA National Wind Chamber Music Competition.  As a soloist, Tyler has appeared in master classes with Lars Mlekusch, Alfonso Padilla, Griff Campbell, Otis Murphy, and Kenneth Tse.  Tyler was named a semifinalist in the 2014 International Saxophone Symposium and Competition (ISSAC), and first prizewinner of the 2015 Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition.  Tyler is also an active member of the Eastman Saxophone Project.  His primary saxophone teacher is Chien-Kwan Lin.
