2021 1st Prize Classical Saxophone: Walt Puyear

Walt Puyear is currently working towards a Master of Music in saxophone performance at the University of Michigan. As a soloist, Walt won UMKC’s Chancellor’s Concerto Competition, and has competed internationally in the 7th Adolphe Sax Competition, and the 5th International Jean-Marie Londeix Saxophone Competition. As a chamber musician, Walt has placed second and third in the North American Saxophone Alliance national quartet competition, competed in the 2018 Fischoff Competition, and advanced to the national round of the MTNA chamber music competition. Prior to studying at the University of Michigan, Walt graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Missouri- Kansas City Conservatory with bachelor’s degrees in saxophone performance and music theory.
